Children's Health Initiative of Orange County
Why Insure a Child?
The lack of insurance impacts not only the child and his or her family but also the entire community.
62,000 Uninsured Children in Orange County:
- have a 1.5 times higher death rate than insured children
- miss more days of school
- use costly emergency rooms for basic care needs
- often develop more serious conditions as a result of inconsistent health care
- cost Orange County $20 to $25 million each year
- are most likely ELIGIBLE for health care coverage through state and federal subsidized programs
The Children's Health Initiative of Orange County is a public - private partnership founded in 2004 under the auspices of the Health Funders Partnership of Orange County Safety Net Initiative. Healthcare leaders, partners, and donors are working together on a mission to implement, support and coordinate county-wide programs for health insurance enrollment and retention for all uninsured children in Orange County. We believe that one uninsured child is one too many.
We are improving children's lives and building a better community for the future. The mission of Children's Health Initiative of Orange County is to match all uninsured children with affordable and quality health care. Our vision is based on a simple philosophy: A child's good health is the foundation for a lifetime of opportunity and success.
